In Pet Rescue Saga Level 42, you must open the locked blocks right below the key. The next phase is to open up the closed blocks and use the booster (that is powered up as you clear the blocks) against the column remaining on the left of the bomb found on the ledge. The bomb will drop and you can blast it to bring other bombs down, remove the black blocks and defeat the level.

Since the black boxes can only be destroyed with a bomb or a booster, you end up making more moves to save the pets. Pet Rescue Saga Level 42 offers you just enough moves to defeat the game, so you must make your strategy carefully as you go along. Follow the guidelines specified above and you will be amazed that you could not pass the level in the first place.
